Who We Are
The Belize Flats Fishing Association (BFFA) is a national non-profit organization representing the voices of professional fishing guides, conservationists, and coastal stakeholders across Belize. We work to protect and sustain the country’s world-renowned flats ecosystems — the shallow coastal waters, mangroves, and seagrass beds that support species like bonefish, tarpon, and permit.Through collaboration, science, and education, BFFA ensures that flats fishing continues to provide economic, cultural, and environmental benefits for generations to come.

1
Our Purpose
The BFFA exists to strengthen Belize’s economy and coastal communities by promoting sustainable fishing practices and responsible management of natural resources.
We aim to:
-
Increase the productivity and resilience of flats fisheries
-
Improve the livelihoods and social wellbeing of fishing guides and coastal residents
-
Protect marine and coastal ecosystems through conservation, science, and education
2
Our Mission
To build a sustainable future for Belize’s flats fishery through responsible management, environmental stewardship, and community empowerment.
We strive to conserve the habitats that sustain our livelihoods while honoring the deep cultural connection between Belizean people and the sea.
3
Our Vision
To unify the voices and actions of Belize’s flats fishing community to safeguard our marine and coastal habitats.
We envision a future where conservation and tradition coexist — where every guide, angler, and coastal resident plays a role in protecting the ecosystems that define Belize’s identity.
